The Bilharszia, Onchocerciasis and Soil-Transmitted Helminthiasis (BOS) Project aims to increase the awareness and prevention of Bilharzia, Onchocerciasis and Soil-transmitted Hemlinthiasis in the Hohoe Municipality.
The BOS Project has reached 14 communities and schools in the Hohoe Municipality. At the end of Year One of the project, we have achieved the following results:
- 25 Community health volunteers (CHVs) and 27 teachers received successful training to implement the project;
- Sensitization of 2,000 community members on the prevention, control and treatment of Bilharzia, (schistosomiasis), Onchocerciasis and Soil-transmitted helminthiasis (intestinal worms);
- 3000 children have received treatment in 25 schools across Hohoe.
The project has resulted in the positive behaviour changes among students, who have also demonstrated in the project communities that they can be effect agents of change influencing positively the behaviour of their peers, but the behaviour of their parents and guardians as well.
