Accra, May 14, 2012 – Pro-Link’s project with FHI Sharper works in collaboration with peer educators in Ghana to disseminate information that encourages safe sexual practices targeting those most at risk of contracting HIV. Romeo is one of Pro-Link’s peer educators (middle of photo), he also happens to be a Liberian Refugee. In our program Romeo specifically targets MSM groups (Men Sleeping with Men) in his community for HIV testing and counseling services. Romeo has been a model peer educator for everyone in Pro-Link’s program. Currently, Romeo resides in Buduburam the Liberian Refugee Camp in Ghana. The camp was established in 1990 to accommodate an influx of Liberian refugees who fled to Ghana to seek asylum owing to the armed conflict in Liberia. Due to the scheduled closure of the Buduburam Refugee Camp in Ghana, Romeo is faced with the surmounting task of returning to his country of birth Liberia at the end of June 2012.

Romeo continues to inspire and motivate us here at Pro-Link, and also those he serves in his community.

Romeo has written a thank you letter to the staff of Pro-Link and has permitted us to share his story.

Accra, May 13, 2012- We at Pro-Link like think of each other as a one big family, we work together advancing our programmes cohesively as a dedicated team. This month, Diana one of our valued team members has finished her volunteer position with Pro-Link, wrapping up her 5 month internship with Crossroads International. At Pro-Link we have the privilege of receiving a number of volunteers every year. Out of the volunteers we receive, every so often we get one that far exceeds our expectations, Diana is one of those.

Diana spent her time primarily working in Kadjebi in the Volta Region of Ghana. She independently sourced for funding helping the women’s group purchase land for income generating activities, ensuring the sustainability of Pro-Link’s project and also providing more opportunities for the women of Kadjebi.

We are certain that Diana will go on to do great things in Canada. We are fortunate that we were able to have her here at Pro-Link, and she will be missed.

Accra, Feb. 24, 2012 – The Ghana Aids Commission celebrated its 10th anniversary by having it’s first ever National HIV/AIDS Fair held at the Accra Convention Center. The Executive Director of the joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS), Mr Michel Sidibe on Wednesday arrived in the country for a three-day state visit to mark the 10th anniversary of the Ghana AIDS Commission (GAC).

We were in attendance for the duration of the 3 days with a front booth proudly displaying our various field materials, and informational material to be distributed and viewed by the public at the convention center. By popular demand, during the 3 days at the Convention Center we held numerous female and male condom demonstrations to an eager public. The crowds were diverse, ranging from entire secondary school classes, to men and women who serve Ghana in the military. During the fair, we also frequently found ourselves being engaged in Q&A sessions with those who stopped by our booth to learn about Pro-Link.

Since 1993 as an organization we have been committed to advocating for the most vulnerable in Ghana. Currently to combat HIV/AIDS, we are coordinating 4 programs: our Sharper and (ADRA/Global Fund ) projects which aims to reduce the susceptibility of MARPS (FSW,NPP,MSM) to HIV/AIDS infections, our project Addressing The Gender Related Aspects Of HIV/ AIDS partnered with (DAIDA) and the (GAC), and also our Gender HIV Project with Gender Center .

At Pro-Link we can proudly say that we have contributed to the success that Ghana has experienced in it’s response to the HIV/AIDS epidemic. The International HIV/AIDS Fair was a great experience for us at Pro-Link, we were able to network, distribute crucial information to the public, and also reflect on how far we have come as an organization. We are looking forward to continuing our work fighting HIV/AIDS, and we are also looking forward to continuing our work with the (GAC) in the future.
